trauma1smI’ve been thinking a lot about trauma lately. What is it? How does it work? Can someone recover from it? Most of all, though, I’ve been wondering how bad something has to be to constitute trauma. In my mind, the circumstance has to be pretty bad to be labeled “traumatic.” I mean, I’ve been pretty down and hurt lately, but to call my struggles trauma seems, well, a little out of proportion to someone who, say, saw duty in the Iraq war.

According to author Michaela Haas, however, trauma is not so much the experience but rather the feeling it produces. Instead of me trying to explain this, though, I’m going to let Haas explain it by posting this link from Psychology Today. Please read it and think hard about what’ it’s saying. You may have discounted your pain.
